WELCOME TO THE KINSBOURNE COMMON WOODLAND ADVENTURES

The Nursery is extremely fortunate to have woodland and common land right on our doorstep, providing a wonderful natural environment for the children to explore, discover and learn. Our access to this beautiful outdoor space gives children the freedom to experience the wonders of nature first-hand, whatever the weather, and creates endless opportunities for adventure, curiosity and hands-on learning.
Our outdoor learning experiences encourage children to develop confidence, independence, resilience and teamwork, while allowing them to follow their natural curiosity and become fully immersed in the world around them. From searching for minibeasts beneath logs to building shelters from natural materials, there is always something new to discover!
Activities may include:

  • 🌳 Den and shelter building using sticks, branches and other natural materials

  • 🍂 Leaf printing, bark rubbing and natural art

  • 🔎 Woodland treasure hunts and nature trails

  • 🐛 Minibeast hunts and exploring habitats

  • 💧 Mud painting

  • 🪵 Stick and log building challenges

  • 🌿 Identifying plants, trees, flowers and leaves

  • 🐦 Bird spotting and listening to woodland sounds

  • 🪶 Collecting and investigating natural treasures

  • 🦊 Animal tracking and looking for signs of wildlife

  • 🌧️ Puddle jumping and exploring the woodland in wet weather

  • 🪢 Teamwork and problem-solving challenges

  • ☀️ Exploring seasonal changes throughout the year

Our woodland experiences provide so much more than outdoor play. They give children the opportunity to take manageable risks, solve problems, work together, develop physical skills and build a genuine connection with nature. Whether it is a sunny summer adventure, a crisp autumn walk, a frosty winter exploration or splashing through puddles in the rain, every season brings a new opportunity to learn, explore and create wonderful memories.
We believe that some of the most valuable learning happens when children are given the space, freedom and encouragement to explore the world for themselves - and having this incredible natural environment right on our doorstep makes that possible on a weekly basis.
